About POIS
POIS is a quiet companion for long days at a screen. During a session you start, it uses motion information from compatible AirPods to notice when your head has stayed tilted down, compared with how you naturally look ahead, and plays one soft sound in your ear. Then it gets out of the way. There is no camera, no posture score and no streak to keep. POIS is a consumer app, not a medical device: it offers a moment of awareness, not a diagnosis or a correction.
The experience
Put in your AirPods, open POIS and tap Begin. Look ahead naturally for a moment: not your best posture, just your usual one. Then lock your phone and get on with your day. Music keeps playing.
Most of the time, POIS says nothing. A glance at a message or a look at a map passes in silence. If your head stays down, you hear one quiet sound through your headphones, and you look up. When the session ends, POIS shows only the time you spent together. No score.
The technology, in public terms
Since iOS 14, Apple’s Core Motion framework has let iPhone apps receive motion updates from motion-capable Apple headphones, with the user’s permission. It is the same kind of sensing that lets Spatial Audio follow your head.
POIS uses that capability to give a gentle head-position reminder during an active session. Raw motion is processed on the iPhone. Headphone orientation is one signal about the head: it does not measure the spine, shoulders or neck.
Design
POIS was designed to feel like it isn’t there. The interface is a single living edge of light; the signature sound is a soft wooden note that opens into a small bloom. The brand line is “A little more present.”
What makes it different
- It uses something people already wear. Many AirPods owners don’t know their earbuds can sense head movement.
- It starts from you, not an ideal angle. There is no universal posture to hold.
- It is built around restraint: one sound, only when your head has stayed down, and silence the rest of the time.
- It is audio-first. Nothing to watch, nothing to check, no camera.
Who makes it
POIS is designed and built independently by Kopa Studio in Europe.
Story angles
Technology. An independent iPhone app explores a practical, everyday use for the motion sensors already inside AirPods.
Human. A quiet technology designed to help people remember themselves while they focus on everything else.
